Making a Splash since 2005

For 20 years, The Pool has grown to cover various public-service employees and their families all across Michigan. Now, we support over 30,000 people across 231 member organizations, and counting. As we look to the future, the momentum continues to build – all while staying true to The Pool's three pillars of Member-focused, Value, and Trust.

From Ripples to Waves

Since the beginning, our mission has been to provide best-in-class, affordable benefits to the people who work hard every day in our local communities.

  • 2005 - 2010

    • The Pool receives their certificate of authority on July 27, 2005, and covers 901 employees
    • The Board establishes The Pool's three pillars: Member-focused, Value, and Trust
    • Official partnership with BCBSM is established in 2009
  • 2011 - 2015

    • The Pool covers 2,000+ employees
    • First group of teachers join in 2013
    • Continuing the expansion of member choice, partnership with Priority Health is established in 2014
  • 2016 - 2020

    • The Pool covers 4,000+ employees
    • Value Committee implements 2nd.MD program in September 2018
    • Value Committee implements diabetes and pre-diabetes management programs in January 2020
    • Member Experience Committee adds the Life & LTD Cooperative
    • First Annual Membership Summit hosted in 2019
    • The Pool attracts attention and growth through member impact and word of mouth
  • 2021 - 2024

    • The Pool reaches 11,000+ employees covered
    • Building off its pillars, a strategic plan for 2021 – 2026 is established and ultimate vision decided: To be the first choice for market-leading healthcare solutions for public service employers and employees in Michigan
    • Pool brand established as a direct reflection of its members
    • B.R.A.V.E Committee established to strengthen the sense of inclusion for community public service entities
    • Established direct communication with employees, providing monthly education and resource reminders
    • Personalized data dashboards created to enhance member understanding of their organization's claims spend
    • Began partnerships with Virta for diabetes reversal, and Hinge Health for muscle, back, and joint pain relief
    • Launched Pool member app
  • 2025

    • The Pool reaches 22,000+ employees covered
    • The Pool's Dental program begins, in partnership with ADN
    • Began partnership with Maven, offering free, 24/7 support to new and expecting parents
    • The momentum continues
